Charlotte Sagoff Memorial Garden

Please help us honor Charlotte and create a lovely new seating area outside the main entrance of the Acton Memorial Library. Our vision is for an approximately 20 foot by 25 foot area just to the left of the library entrance featuring:
  • Three benches (one next to current sidewalk)
  • Brick path & patio (handicap accessible)
  • Garden w/low maintenance, attractive plantings
  • Granite block table

A dogwood tree is already growing just behind the patio-bench location, and will provide a beautiful backdrop to the garden. Here is a view of the garden from the library entrance. We also hope to include Charlotte-inspired "word bricks" scattered throughout the brickwork. The overall design can be seen on this concept plan, created by Tom Tidman, Acton's Director of Natural Resources.

Charlotte was an:

  • An avid reader & Acton Memorial Library patron
  • Environmental leader in Acton
  • Acton Board of Health member
  • Founder of Acton Earth Day
  • Strong voice for the protection of Acton 's drinking water & cleanup of the WR Grace Superfund Site in Acton

This privately funded project is proposed by a group that includes members of the Acton Library Trustees, the Friends of the Acton Libraries, and ACES (Acton Citizens for Environmental Safety).

There are at least 3 ways to help. First and most immediate, you can make a tax-deductible contribution, please make your check out to:
